Fiona Keane

Fiona Keane is a playwright, songwriter, drama and writing teacher as well as SPARK Facilitator (multi-arts creativity workshops for all ages).

Key Highlights:

I hold a Masters in Theatre Arts & Playwriting from Columbia University in New York, a three-year immersive programme.

  • Worked in Off-Broadway theatres, wrote traditional and site-specific plays with professional actors.
        • Developed my knowledge of theatre and creativity with the help of Anne Bogart, Eduardo Machado and Robert Woodruff (and guest lecturers, David Mamet, Arthur Miller and Edward Albee).
        • Plays produced in New York, Cleveland, Dublin and Mayo.
        • Interned at New York Theatre Workshop. Read scripts and assisted the dramaturg and  literary manager.
    • Since 2009,  I have facilitated Creative Writing Workshops for children and adults in diverse settings. Notably, two books have emerged from these workshops, including Eithne Ring’s Does My Son Take Sugar (“[A story that] has resonated widely here in the west of Ireland”Áine Ryan, Irish Times) and Paul Soye’s Two Lives.
    • Former leader of Mayo Youth Theatre in Ballina, supported by Mayo County Council, with whom I wrote a musical for 26 young people and facilitated the writing and production of more than a dozen plays. Additionally, I established Floating Islands Youth Theatre in Westport, furthering my commitment to nurturing young creative minds (2015-2020).
    • Post-primary English Teacher registered with the Teaching Council & Garda vetted.
    • Served as Adjunct Faculty at Hibernia College (2019-22), contributing to the education of trainee teachers in the Professional Masters in Education programme.
    • I hold a Diploma in Acting from the Gaiety School of Acting, where I first learned the art of improvisation.  I later had the opportunity to teach and devise plays with student actors.
      • As a Creativity Coach, I have been instrumental in assisting individuals—ranging from experienced artists to those newly awakened to their creative desires—in activating their creativity and overcoming obstacles to complete their projects.
